Just some comments, not asking for help.
I have tried the Ulysses 7.3 beta and Odyssey 7.3 beta on my desk top and
Compaq Pressario laptop. Downloaded the ISO files for both and burned
installation CD's.
Ulysses set up sound on both machines, great to listen to cd's on Linux for
a change. I have not gotten Odyssey to set up sound yet.
Odyssey will not set up my display above 800*600 resolution on the desktop,
Ulysses would. My monitor and sound card are listed on both (Trident
Cyberblade and Dell 1028L). I have tried other combinations from the
choices on XFree setup, no other combination works above 800*600.
The display on the Compaq would only work if installed as expert with SVGA
as video card, but looks great at 1024*whatever. The XFree 4.01 can only be
installed if you chose expert installation on anything.
Lucent has a driver/patch that let the winmodem on the Compaq work with
Mandrake 7.0. To use the modem with Mandrake 7.1 I had to keep the kernel
2.2.14 kppp setup. I cannot make this work with 7.2. The modem in 7.2 with
the Lucent patch responds to query commands and dials out but dies on
connection, just like Mandrake 7.1.
I would have stayed with Ulysses but it bugged out when installing RPM's.
