Over the weekend a friend (a total linux newbie) and I installed the rc, and
found a number of what could be considered showstoppers for beginners.
1. Both expert and recommended installs failed to detect Linksys LNE100TX
cards (tulip) and refused to load the module for it while in the installer.
It had no problem loading the very same module once the OS was started and I
created the net device by hand.
2. On recommended install (my friend's) the automatic partition resizer
failed with an error
Can't locate object method "new" via package "resize_fat::main" at
/usr/bin/perl-install/install_interactive.pm line 108, <> line 5.
Which is also in report.bug at http://www.matts.org/mdk/
After using Expert mode, it worked fine.
3. The XFdrake stage incorrectly autodetected his ATI rage 64 card and only
after trial and error (and help from me) was he able to get it going.
4. After the problem with X, we tried to run "bug" again to put a fresher
report.bug on the floppy. It failed with errors in perl-install which I
don't recall and didn't get jotted down.
Minor Stuff:
I really like the new boot-up GUI, but it would be nice perhaps if the user
could have a choice of whether or not to use it. (mine didn't have it in
expert, my friend's did)
Could you give the user a simplified choice in the lilo/grub stage when using
recommended install? Windows (or whatever OS) or Linux as default?
