You're right.

http://sodaplay.com/constructor/index.htm used to work in LM 7.2 betas,
but indeed it no longer works. 
My jdk are 1.3 from IBM and 1.2.2 from sun.

Konqueror used to be more stable than netscape for displaying applets,
but something got broken (although I am still able to display JDK
examples ...).
