Well, if you do, you'll most likely find out the cause of a great many
conflicts with Mandrake's apache - I just recently came across mod_gzip, a
great little module that transparently implements gzip compression/encoding
on data for those browsers that support/request it - resulting in a great
deal of speed improvements.

Unfortunately, while the RPM and .src RPM work fine on RedHat systems, they
don't rebuild, compile or cause segfaults on the webserver on Mandrake
systems. This is similar to a set of PHP4 RPMs that work under RedHat, but
segfault under Mandrake's apache.

While I appreciate the speed improvements that Mandrake compiles into their
apache, this problem with segfaulting is a bit of a problem when one wants
to install additional modules, and kinda makes anyone running a Mandrake
distro entirely dependent on Mandrake - not good.

Perosnally, I feel this module is a MUST INCLUDE for Mandrake, as it
transparently speeds up traffic by a factor of 30% to 97%... Well worth
having it.
