Might I just butt in and ask that people stop pissing off Guillaume and
the other Mandrake developers with useless complaints about the
differences between the Mdk 7.2 sold by Macmillan and the Mdk 7.2
available for download? Mandrake have just put out the best version
of the best Linux distro ever, and people complain about it?!? And call
them Microsoft?!?! Now let's see, saying that Mdk is the same as MS would
mean that Mdk is a closed source shop, with NDA's flying free, and no
chance to talk to the developers at all since they were locked in cubicles
with whip weilding slave drivers a la 'Space Quest III' watching over
them. I don't think this is happening - Guillaume, Pixel, Vincent and the
rest (sorry can't remember all the names just now :-), are you locked up
like this? I don't think so, because all the developers are posting to
this list. And is Mdk producing a binary only, you'll prise the source out
of my cold dead hands, product like MS? Ignoring MS's recent security
embarassment that perhaps left them with an open source product before
they were really ready to embrace the open source ideals, I don't think
the comparison is at all valid. So WTF are people smoking to let them
compare Mdk to MS? That they're both businesses and need to make some sort
of profit to stay in business? So does your friendly neighbourhood apple
seller or whatever (NB, your friendly neighbourhood Apple seller has
probably gone out of business shortly after he started selling Macs). But
since we're talking about software, the difference
lies in the fact that Mdk provides the source code to all it's products,
and free updates, while MS does not (if you think MS does, try upgrading
MS Windows 98 to Windows 98SE without paying for it). THERE IS NO WAY OF
SAYING THAT MDK IS LIKE MS, UNLESS YOU ARE AN IDIOT! (anybody who
henceforth does so shall rescind all rights to non-idiocy, and be known
as an idiot for the rest of eternity). Anybody who suggests that any other
Linux distro is better than Mdk will become an idiot only for half of
eternity. Talk about *BSD, and I'll get BOFH on you.

put out a great distro. Now I must go to bed, as I've run out of
