Hello,
I usualy choose expert class when installing a new mdk version, however
last week-end I installed mdk 7.2 on a friend's pc and I wanted to show
him how easy it was now to install mandrake
1-we first tried to update from mdk 7.1 to 7.2 but the update suggested
to install only 500 megs of packages although 1.7 gigs of mdk 7.1 were
already on disk..
I thing something is wrong in the logic : the update looks the amount of
free space to determine how much package it should install. But wait,
this is an update so if you have already 1.7 gig occupied from a
previous version these 1.7 gig should be replaced by the new version or
am I stupid ?
to my opinion the update logic should be:
a- look for installed packages
b- replace each installed package by the new version
c- eventually let the user select some additional packages not already
installed.
2-recommended install:
doesn't show diskdrake at all which seems to be a carefull approach,
however although there were already several linux ext2 partitions
on hda / 900 meg
swap 256 meg
/home 2 gigs
/usr 3 gigs
the install only detected the root and suggested to install mandrake on
900 megs !
3- customised install :
dialog box (in french) about partitionning is confusing and we were not
sure what the various options would do, so we selected "use diskdrake"
no way to choose the boot loader: grub was installed but we wanted lilo
no way to choose the xfree version: the 3.3.6 was installed but we
wanted 4.01
BTW why is this called customised if we have no choice ?
