Nvidia surpasses ATI in desktop PCs, study says
By Bloomberg News
November 9, 2000, 1:55 p.m. PT

update Nvidia has overtaken ATI Technologies as the biggest maker of chips
to enhance graphics on desktop computers, according to a new study by
industry consultant Mercury Research.

In the third quarter, Nvidia chips were in 48 percent of all desktop
computers, more than doubling its market share from 20 percent in the third
quarter last year, Mercury said. ATI slipped to 34 percent from 39 percent
---------------------------------
So, their combined marketshare 48+34=82%, much more then 70% I was worring
about.
It's better to take open-sourced driver from them _now_, until it is _too
late_
There should be a way. Somebody mentioned 2000/month sent to Matrox.
May be it's time to start sending mails to NVidia? (and to ATI, for better
support of laptop drivers - they have now 57% of all laptop graphics chips)
IMHO, it's possible to set up web-based mailing form with standard letter, so
it will be possible to send "right" letter to correct address even not
digging into the case itself. And post link to this form on Slashdot,
MandrakeForum, etc...
