Have you try 'xset -dpms' with XFree4 active (for my Dell Laptop Inspiron 7500 the
problem is that it works with standby but not recover with suspend or off and need
switch off)
As I wrote time ago....;o) (before DPMS was not enabled by default...;o)
look before with 'xset -q'
With DPMS enabled you can use
'xset dpms 1200 65535 65535'
or you can disable DPMS if you comment as
# Option "DPMS"
in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
