I hate to have to say it, but those are the sorts of error
I'd expect to see when a hard drive is starting to show errors.
When an IDE hard drive shows errors its probably very bad -- they have
built-in error correction that is supposed to make errors transparent.
It might be that the drive is set to the wrong geometry.
Do you have anything that explicitly sets hard drive geometry?
