Tried your suggestion. Problem goes away ! The clicking is not from the CD it is from the floppy, even though the output applies to the ATAPI device. I surmise therefore that both devices are being 'talked' to, but only the CD objects ! Could this be the cause of floppies not automounting correctly (I have the supermount entry in fstab but I have to maintain a 'normal' entry for /dev/fd0 as well !!) and music cd's not auto playing ? (I am posting another mail about inappropriately mounting the floppy at boot time.) Now it has been discovered that supermount is the problem do you have a feeling about what is causing this ?
