Last night was able to do a clean install via ftp from the
ftp.free.fr server. Went without a hitch, except for a couple minor
glitches. VERY nice. Used the PCMCIA image floppy. Recognised
my Linksys card, shook hands with the cable modem, and worked
great. Had to request the IP address from the dhcp server a couple
times before it succeeded, but that may be my cable company rather
than the software.
Glitch the first: Bombs after formatting the root partition,
returns to the partition step. I selected the same partitions and then
skipped the formatting - worked fine after that.
Glitch the second: Xfree 4.0.1 doesn't bomb, but doesn't work
when autoconfigured by setup for the Trident chip in the Gateway 9100.
Switched to generic SVGA - which seems to recognise the chip OK and
works fine.
