I had previously submitted a bug report about kdm not working in the KDE 2.1
CVS build (20001210) for 7.2. You pointed out that it was a bug in kde.
But I would like to point out that it is a packaging problem. The file
libKdmGreet.so was not included in the package. The file is not listed in
the spec file and hence it is not included in the package. It can be found
at /usr/lib/libKdmGreet.{la,so}.
Hope you will fix this problem in packaging.
