You can upgrade via rpm. I have done several times. But you also need to
upgrade your glibc, no way out. So:
- get and install from cooker: glibc22, glibc22-devel, nscd, ldconfig
db1, db2, db3, and install all at the same time with rpm -U *.rpm.
This way you will not see any dependency problems.
- get popt, rpm and install them.
- do a 'rpm --rebuilddb'
If you are short of disk space (and never want to go back to rpm-3), you
can delete the files /var/lib/rpm/*.rpm. Its the old (v3) database.
