Nice idea. And about "better" options that should be set in /etc/profile,
I have this one:
LESS="-i"
This will cause less to search case insensitve, if only lower case
characters are entered. Doing so might also aid less experienced users, as
this is also the way most search engines on the web work, and the users
might be used to this.
And also
HISTCONTROL=ignoreboth
would be nice to have, so that identical commands and commands starting with
one or more spaces aren't saved in the bash history. This might also aid
users.
Also a /etc/profile.d/local.{c,}sh would be nice to have, so that users do
not modify their /etc/profile, but instead use this file.
