I did expert development upgrade from hd.img, almost everything, en-GB, boot
from Adaptec 2940UA (aic***).

At least I got the thing installed this time, but the installer is *very*
rough around the edges.

1. "Configure mouse" didn't work - as soon as I moved the mouse the
installer flipped to ***Format partitions*** (it ought to be trivial to
change that label to match the dialog "Finding packages to upgrade".

2. While waiting (ages) I checked console messages - there were many
like "Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library at /usr/bin/
    perl-install/my-gdk.pre - lines 179 and 36.

3. Near end of "Install packages" I got these messages:
bad package: howto-html-en-7.1-4mdk (missing from cooker)
libqtcups1-devel-1.2-1mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
                libnewt0.50-devel-0.50.19-1mdk (installed OK later (nodeps))
sftp-0.9.6-3mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
mcserv-4.5.51-9mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
minicom-1.83.1-4mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
gqview-0.8.2-7mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
egcs-objc-devel-1.1.2-40mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
jed-xjed-B0.99.12-2mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
gnus-doc-5.8.8-1mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
                imlib-cfgeditor-1.9.8.1-9mdk
xmms-mesa-1.2.4-3mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
libadns1-devel-1.0-4mdk (installed OK later -see 6)
lyx-1.1.6-1mdk (installed OK later -see 6)

4. Install bootloader failure - "Fatal: open /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.0-0.7mdk - No
such file or directory". I edited it to 2.4.0-4mdk and it worked.

5. On reboot I started kpackage to try installing the failures of Item 3.
*No* new RPMs listed. The installer had wiped out my installation source.
This cannot be true and it isn't, but it is *very* frightening - I had a
lot more than just cooker on that partition and now konqueror shows it
    empty.
When I told the installer where the source was, it changed /etc/fstab
    entry from
        /dev/hdg5 /mnt/downloads ext2 defaults 1 2
    to
        /dev/hdg5 /tmp/disk ext2 defaults 1 2
and left it like that - **naughty** installer!

6. After next reboot I started kpackage to try installing the failures from
Note 3 above, plus others that hadn't installed.
imlib-cfgeditor-1.9.8.1-9mdk causes kpackage to crash with signal 11.
perl-base-5.600-24mdk - unpacking archive failed : Bad magic.
samba-client-2.0.7-20mdk - unpacking archive failed : Bad magic.
ghostscript-utils-5.50-49mdk - unpacking archive failed : Bad magic.

I'll post any further test results later.
