Using mod_auth_pam version 1.0a under 7.2(rc1) distribution (Apache 1.3.12): compiles and installs no worries, pops up in Apache's module list, but the configuration keywords are not recognised (I get a start-Apache-time message saying that they may be mis-spelled). All authentication fails (browser prompts again). The init call spits an ``inappropriate ioctl for device'' (errno is 25) message into Apache's error_log, but deleting the init call (it appears to only add the module to Apache's ID string, something which doesn't strike me as appropriate for an authentication module) doesn't make it work any better. The same message is logged with the authentication failures. The only reference I could find for this was on the DebIan bugtracker for the module - saying that it had been fixed - but I couldn't see anything in the DebIan diffs to give me a clue where to start looking. The /etc/pam.d/httpd file is very simple, it just invokes mod_unix.so for auth and account - not that mod_auth_pam seems to get that far. Apache is running as user apache/apache, CPU is a Pentium 133 (same thing happens on a K6-II-300). Is this going to be a forever problem or is it fixed in Cooker? Can it be added as a package, or does it create too many security issues? -- I have had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it. -- Groucho Marx
