Reiserfs is compiled as a module on 7.1 which is what I run. You need to get
a new version of mkinitrd.

Um, /usr/include/linux/ is a symlink to /usr/src/linux/include/linux/, so if
you installed the downloaded kernel tarball in /usr/src/ your 2.2.18 headers
are hosed. Read the README file in /usr/src/linux for the reason why.
ps. attached is a patch for supermount-0.5.3 against 2.4.1.pre9. It contains
the fixes you mentioned.
