Hi!
I'm using a 400 MHz Celeron. Would I gain any noticable performance
(ie.
>=5%) if I were to recompile the kernel with exact same settings as
Mandrake
uses but instead choosing Celeron as the target CPU instead of the
default
586 target that is used by Mandrake?

im not sure (using a P75 myself) but depending one the definition of
Celeron
ie orig pII or newer pIII Celeron you may only get a nonbootable kernel.
Try both the "parent" cpu type (i think pII for your clock) and celeron
to check.
any way your kernel will not run on pI, pImxx, or 486 cpus
