Last night I attempted a clean PCMCIA ftp install from sunsite.uio.no.

A few issues came up.

Selected "expert" and "install".

Installer comes up just fine, partitions ok. Goes into package
selection
and puts up the groups with their icone. I selected KDE, Gnome,
Communications, Office, Multimedia, Graphic manipulation,
Documentation, and had the individual package selection switch ON.
Also selected was "automatic dependencies"

Under individual package selection - NONE of the document packages
was selected. No books, no how-to's, nothing. Wouldn't it make
sense to default the packages to install, with maybe the how-to
package for the language selected earlier set to install?

Communications: only mgetty and mgetty-voice were selected.

qt2-Xt is under the Development menu group, in "other" - since
it's needed for font rendering, shouldn't it default to being
selected, and maybe moved to XFree or something? I'm thinking
that the default should be to install and configure all the stuff
for the improved font rendering, unless the installing person
selects NOT to install it. Does this make sense?

Gnome and KDE - both were selected. Last night NONE of the items
under either group was selected for install.

there's more of the same, but you get the idea. Shouldn't the normal
behavior be to check the packages that clicking on the install group
would normally select, and then having the person installing either
select additional or de-select what he doesn't want in the select
individual packages part?

Next problem - ALL the packages loaded ok last night. Error message
popped up at the end saying one or more packages didn't load. Hitting
"OK" sends the installer back to loading package list.

Hope some of this helps. Let me know when to try it again.

How is/was Linux Expo?

Regards,

Vinny
