Let me just create such a scenario (pretending most people would do so):

- Mirror your closest mirror with rsync, fmirror,....
- The directory structure would be like that:

  /path/to/mirror/
      |
      +-- ...
      +-- Mandrake/
      | |
      | +-- 7.1/
      | | |
      | | +-- ...
      | |
      | +-- 7.2/
      | | |
      | | +-- i586/
      | | | |
      | | | + COPYING
      | | | + INSTALL.txt
      | | | + ...
      | | |
      | | +-- SRPMS
      | |
      | +-- cooker/
      | | |
      | | +-- ...
      | |
      |      +-- current -> 7.2/
      | +-- updates/
      | |
      | + 7.1/
      | + 7.2/
      | |
      | +-- RPMS/
      | +-- SRPMS/
      | +-- descriptions
      | +-- ls-lR
      |
      +-- ...

- Depending, that "/path/to/mirror" is exported by FTP/HTTP as "/distrib"
install would have been from : (ftp|http)://server/distrib/Mandrake/7.2/i586/
where updates would come from "$install_root/../../updates/$dist_ver"

After all, I think maybe this could go into DrakX as pre-filled-in
configuration screen either to <change> and <accept> this setting or <skip>
creation of ~/.mandrake-update (in Expert mode only?)
