Assume that the actual flow from keyboard towards screen goes through the steps.

1    press key
2    get font from server
3    print at screen

Then you could do:

A1     choose keyboard layout
A2    divide screen in upper and lower part with the lower showing new keyboard
A3    tell font server where we are
1
2
3
B1    return to original keyboard.
