Dunno who to send this to, so just tossing it in the pot.

It seems that upon an improper shutdown(power failure, this case) of a
running system(LM 7.1 in the reported case) the system is unable to
recover upon restart and properly write .Xauthority.  The user gets
''Xauth .Xauthority not written' and is left in a cli wondering what to
do. Ctrl-c gets the GUI to load but _most_ newbies are not gonna know
this...

Has this been tested with tractopel?
