I've switched back to the 2.2.17 kernel as shipped with Mandrake 7.2,
and NFS to/from cooker is now working fine.
It appears that the NFS problem only occurs with the 2.2.18 kernel,
the puzzling thing is that this problem did not occur with early cookers.
