I don't think smpeg as yet plays any AVI files at all

Nor does it play ogg files without crashing too,
unfortunately...
The best bet in my opinion for playing DivX files is
Aviplay - http://divx.euro.ru . Incidentally, anyone
has any idea how to suspend arts while using old audio
programs? Using aviplay without suspending /
terminating arts take too much CPU power. Rather
interesting considering ESD is much more low-key in
this respect, not taking over non-compliant aduio
calls unless esdplay is used.
