Also - could you change the line "boot=$device" that's written to the $MOUNTDIR/etc/lilo.conf to read "boot=$rdevice"? Otherwise you get a device busy condition using devfs - $device is /dev/fd0, $rdevice is /dev/fd0u1440.   Thanks again... gio
