Please read carefully I may have some useful information.

Some interesting problems with autologin and X. I've been
experimenting with an ET6000 video card on my machine. Autologin was
installed on the machine. X was configured to start automatically. As
I mentioned in a previous post if a frame buffer was used during the
kernel boot X would fail to start (no screens). Once I removed Aurora
X would start and boot my default user but a `layer' (as I call it) of
graphics was missing with areas of colourless see through sections
failing to fill in. But if I would log out or kill X, then X would
restart correctly! What I have found from my experience with Mandrake
is that when X first starts up and autologs in it is run by a user
with superuser priviliges - kpm shows con* next to X. But if I log out
and restart X it now is run by root. When X is started as root this
problem disappeared. So I uninstalled autologin and discovered that
this problem went away!!

Point of the story - Make sure X is started as root rather than a user
with superuser privileges. Hope this information is helpful.

Con.
