also how about this a plain text file with a straight (alphabetical)
list of the packages in this format

 package number |  package file name  | package name |deps (first level
by number)| cd package is on


this way you don't get Jed is missing (no your set has jed on disc ?)
and the list could be vi-ed to fix different
version quickly (like the Walmart version)
