My Microsoft IMPS/2 optical doesn't like the 8.0 Cooker installer either.
Moving the wheel made the mouse disappear. What works for me is doing the
first part of the installation from the keyboard and only touching the
mouse when the mouse selection dialog is on screen. If I use the mouse
just before the dialog appears, the cursor seems to be just outside the
capture area when the dialog comes up.
