Upgrading packages in KPackage is fairly straightforward. It could be
improved by adding required packages to the selected list at the press
of a button (basically add whatever the test run said was missing).
But as a test to see how viable RPMDrake was as a replacement to
MandrakeUpdate, I tried using it for the latest update to the MySQL
packages. KPackage states that 3.23.33-1mdk is installed and
3.23.33-2mdk is an available update. RPMDrake didn't list -2mdk at all,
so I asked it to update it's medis. Now it says -2mdk is the installed
version. I checked manually. It isn't.
Since I'm trying to play Joe Average attempting to use the update
mechanism on his Linux system (as some Janes and Joes will once 8.0 is
ready), could someone explain to me what the proper way to use RPMDrake
for performing updates is?
(I've been mirroring Cooker to a local directory on my harddrive as
opposed to downloading updates on demand since I occassionally scrap the
install and test the latest and greatest in install routines being
readied for 8.)
