The problem is a file symlink, not a directory symlink:

/boot/initrd.img -> /boot/initrd-2.4.2-20mdk.img

And it should be:

/boot/initrd.img -> initrd-2.4.2-20mdk.img

Maybe I haven't explained as clear as I should be.
