Happened to me too, with Beta 3 install of LM 8. I don't know anything about
fonts, or about xfstt vs. xfs. I'd like to hear a step by step solution
also. Not just a 'turn off widget-33-2-1234.cc and recompile this other
widget.'

Also, aRts in KDE 2.1 is not working for me. I can pull up XMMS and listen
to audio CDs or MP3's or even .wav's. My Heretic-II demo has great sound. I
know the soundcard is functional now. Yet KDE's default sound player (which
I *think* is aRtsd) is not running. I've tried slocate arts (and slocate
artsd) and I find some documentation but nothing in /bin or /usr/bin that I
could run. None of the console commands listed in the aRts FAQ works on my
system, and the FAQ just says 'install kdesupport rpm and recompile
everything and it will work.'
Seems like it's installed, querying rpm database shows that the kdesupport
package is installed. My system notifications CAN play through XMMS, so I
know that the frame work is working well.
Any ideas?? I have an ess-solo1 audiodrive soundcard.
