<snipped wonderfull patch>
Sorry for the delay in testing/answering this, but life has been
hectic...anyway...I applied this patch to 2.4.3-3mdk and made 2 changes to the
configuration: added reiserfs to the kernel (instead of it being a module) and
disabled VIA8xxxx from the IDE devices configuration.
My first attempt with vanilla -3mdk was killed right during the compile
of the NVdrivers RPMs...so it was proly the weakest of em all as far as I've
tested.
On the other hand, this patched -3mdk survived an apt-get dist-upgrade
of around 50megs, couple of compiles and a few heavy hits on my email's
database...so far it seems like a sure winer...Chmouel...you rock! :)
BTW, I applied to -3mdk because that's what was "latest" when you sent
the patch....I haven't even touched more recent kernels...my sanity wasn't able
to take so much rpm database corruption with every dist-upgrade nor so many
lockups...which now seem to be a thing of the past :)
