Dear sir/madam.
Recently I've downloaded MDK 8 isos and installed a clean system
installation. Till now, I suspect I found several bugs:
1) The init script of acon fail to work. I managed to fix the script by
simply adding a ';' at the end of the first line of the switch. (
/etc/rc3.d/S99acon )
2) In case you install Aurora both linux and linux-nofb ( at lilo ) start
a framebuffer console. That's because there is an extra vga parameter
before the switch of lilo.conf. Simply deleting it would fix the problem.
3) The following problem happend to me on another computer I installed MDK
8 on, and cannot say what caused it, or how to fix it. For some reason, if
I try to get into a directory that is supermounted, such as /mnt/cdrom and
/mnt/floppy, the command gets stuck, until I kill it manually. That also
caused rpmdrake to get stuck when starting rpminst.
4) Gnome 1.4 - When adding an application ( not applet ) to the panel from
the Mandrake menus, it all works fine. But after a restart of gnome, it
disappears.
5) xawtv does not compile by default on MDK 8. That's because it can't
find the quicktime package which is not part of the system, from what I've
seen until now. I'm not saying it's a bug, but it would be nice that on
future versions of MDK such popular applications would compile with no
problems.
6) Gnome-ppp does not work. ( Also didn't work for MDK 7.2 ). I assume I'm
doing something wrong.
All in all - a great product indeed.
