it comes from perl-5.00503

the only good solution to switch to perl 5.6.0 was perl-5.600
(because having "provides perl <= 5.00503" is no good)

alas, redhat chose perl-5.6.0 breaking compatibility so maybe i'll switch to
have a better compatibility :-(

it doesn't mean so. try:

pixel@leia:~>perl -V | perl -ne 'print "$1\n" while /(-m(arch|cpu)\S+)/g'
-mcpu=pentiumpro
-march=i586

aka it is compiled with i586 instructions and optimised for i686
