I already posted this to the cooker mailing list a few days ago but got no reply. The module that renders Type1 fonts in XFree86 (libtype1.a) is broken in 8.0 and in cooker because of appearent overoptimization in gcc-2.96-0.48mdk. This causes the effects that so many people are complaining about. I found that compiling xc/lib/font/Type1/module/type1.c without the -ffast-math optimization flag restores the behaviour that Mandrake 7.2 showed. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate the specific code causing the bug inside the file. I put some examples on the page http://users.evitech.fi/~arndb/cooker-type1-fonts/ to illustrate what I mean. Arnd <><
