Ok you made me create a floppy and try by myself, because this story seems
strange enough...

But...... I can't reproduce :-)))).

I really don't know. Maybe your hardware, either floppy, floppy drive,
motherboard during syslinux operation, or something...

It's executable because it's vfat filesystem which doesn't support the
exec flag.
