Hmmm... maybe that's why I didn't encounter the problems.  I haven't
logged into kde once since installing 8.0 (I use GNOME), so I don't
have AA fonts on.

hehehe... I hear ya.  Hopefully someone can figure out what the
problem is (I'm probably the biggest KDE idiot and wouldn't be much
help).
