Gary,

Windows has a long history of taking over a machine during installs and 
such.  Seems like, back in the days of OS/2, it would say something like "I 
notice you have another operating system on your computer.  Should I remove 
it?"  Of course the proper answer was "Yes" because who, in their right 
mind, would want to run something else.
