Just made a quick installation test; system is i815 based with Celeron and
built-in video (i810?); disk is ATA66. Installation from CD-ROM

1. Installation hung the first time somewhere in the middle installing
packages. I had to switch off/on (no reset button), second time it was O.K.. I
reformatted root again the second time.

2. I selected russian/koi8-r for a llanguage. Installation set all LC_*
variables to ru_RU.KOI8-R. THIS LOCALE DOES NOT EXIST! Sorry for capitals, but
I reported it several times on this list long ago. LANG is set to ru (that is
correct) but is overriden by LC_* variables. The result is e.g. bogus date
output; using LC_TIME=ru date gives correct result.

3. Installation correctly configured both alpha and XKb for russian keyboard
switching with CAPS. Thank you. Any chance to choose switch method in GUI?

4. At the installation time I selected graphic menu and 788 video mode
(800x600x16k). When booting, I got nice lilo graphic boot screen, after
loading kernel - no output, funny stripes all over the screen. The system was
not hung, I could reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Del; booting failsafe reported "unknown
video mode".

5. Instead of welcome text in kdm I get just ???. I reported this as well ...
I am not sure where the problem is; may be, in this case it was broken locale
(see 2).

6. 7.2 compatible libstdc++ is of course missing ... he he, folks, look in mdk
newsgroup. But it is very sad actually ...

But overall good impression :-)
