Hello.
I just installed LM8.0 in my kid's PC.
Yes, I know it is selfish, but he does not need his PC as intensively as I do
need mine, and I plan to upgrade my LM7.0 to LM8.0.
Anyway, the installation went "Gold on blue" - no problems whatsoever.
Afterwards, I installed ALL the recent updates. Fine.
Then I installed in my kid's PC some of what I consider basic stuff to check if
most of what I need ... will work.
Oh my God. NOT AT ALL.
1. My everyday editor, on which I spend hours, named CRISP (version 5.0E), DOES
NOT WORK.
2. MATHEMATICA 4.0 dos NOT WORK.
3. MAPLE 5.0 DOES NOT WORK.
4. XMGR 4.11 DOES NOT WORK.
Why ? I am no expert, lads, so I have little remedies to propose. But :
I sneaked around and found a partial solution.
If one includes the files I send attached inside the /lib directory created by
the LM8.0 distribution, I get CRISP & MATHEMATICA to work.
Both XMGR & MAPLE resist and DO NOT WORK.
I guess this is an XFree problem, though, since I installed X-4 and these execs
use X-3. But this is just a (not very brilliant) guess.
The files I send attached are:
ld-linux.so.1 -> ld-linux.so.1.9.5
ld-linux.so.1.9.5
ld.so
libdl.so.1 -> libdl.so.1.9.5
libdl.so.1.9.5
and were stolen from my own LM7.0 distribution, a decision I took based on an
"eye" comparison with what the LM8.0 is providing.
Anyone has an elegant way out of this ?
I could not find a single rpm in LM8.0 which would install the libs I need in
order to run these packages.
Furthermore, is there a way for making the other 2 work ?
Ignorance is a terrible thing. Thankx a lot, everybody out there.
Cheers, J. M. Pacheco
