At the same stage in install as the last five times I get the 'Error 
-prerequisite chain &c'.

When  I am sent back to 'choosing packages to install' I opt for half the 
earlier amount of MB but the 'new' installation halts immediately, with the 
same Error.

This means that some fine global variable might have reached its maximum.
