Sorry, I've probably confused the issue -- I didn't post the original
problem, I just posted my experience in the past, namely this paragraph:

I went on to say that using the fdisk /mbr approach is much better
assuming it works. I will try it the next time I have a similar
problem, but I hope I won't be reinstalling for some time.
