Or use the gdm-2.2.3-1.i386.rpm package from
ftp://ftp.gnome.com/pub/GNOME/stable/redhat/i386/gdm/
That solved even my problem with gdm when it couldn't reconnect to the
X-Server after I exited my gnome-enlightenment session.
