Okay, this also fixed my problem.  Thanks!

But another issue, or the way the files came into existance in the first
place.  I just did a "urpmi --auto-select".  After it displayed the
packages which are to be upgraded, I pressed y.  Shortly afterwards, I
hit <CTRL>+<C>.  Now these files are present again.

So, if a <CTRL>+<C> occurs ANY time in a urpmi run, these files ought to
be removed.  And also during a reboot these files ought to be removed.
What's the purpose anyway?  Shouldn't those files better be placed in
/var/run?
