OK, more news.

The install with the frozen mouse died unexpectedly while
I was selecting packages. TOTALLY bombed - exited neatly though
and said was safe to reboot - so it didn't eat the file systems!

OK, so I reboot, and this time, since I don't want to select a ton of
packages again, do an "expert" "update" install, telling the installer
that it's a standard PS2 mouse (no wheel).

Could set the time zone ok, but not the printer - says can't
connect to CUPS server.

Install finished ok otherwise.

Reboot the system - and both the 2.4 and 2.2 kernels are on the LILO
menu. Ummm. I don't remember clicking on the 2.2 kernel, although i
might have accidently. Is this something the installer did?

Booted 2.4 kernel. CD-RW configured as IDE-SCSI, DVD drive not.
I'd think it should be, as DVD stuff can access SCSI, but can't
copy CD-ROMS as all the CD burning stuff can't see the drive without
it being IDE-SCSI. Edited this, rebooted, and looks like it copies
CD-ROMS ok. (haven't checked the target disk for readablility yet,
but it did the process and ejected the finished disk when it was done)

I don't think the video configured correctly. The card is a AGP Pro
with a Trident Blade chip set, and it does not appear to have any of the
acceleration stuff working.

Tux Racer refreshes like one frame every 7-8 seconds, and Flightgear
won't get past the splash screen. I presume this is related to the
3D acceleration not working? Any hints on re-configuring the card
would be appreciated.

Just on a lark installed with Reiser FS instead of ext2, install went
very well, system booted fine. No benchmarks yet :-) .

Same problem with KDE not running after a fresh install.

Same probelm with all the random hidden user ID's being on the login
screen. Oddly, the default said not to show ID's < 500, but they
showed anyway. Moved 'em to the list not to show, but this used to
work.
