One of the users I work with had the same experience I had so far on plain vanilla Mandrake 8. I am including his full message at the end, but in a nutshell: - Plain install. --> Webserver keeps quitting. I had the same experience, and I find it annoying that even after applying all MandrakeUpdate updates, this doesn't seem fixed. Is this addressed in cooker, or does apapche here quit as well, with an error that it can't restart port 443? Harry I installed mandrake 8 this fri evening at home and put a dev site on it to work on some themes ideas and so I could test that what I am doing on win2000 apache does the same thing on linux apache, and not have to use my 26.4 connection to my other linux server. I has stopped serving pages 3 times now, I took mandrake off this evening and put on e-smith - another redhat based distro this is the distro I use on my servers at work and one of them has 260 days uptime, 45 web sites 10 of which are one version of nuke or another and several phpshop web stores, all told it gets 1500+ unique visitors per day on all the different sites. It has never gone down in that entire time. It is only a used (another lightning damaged) PII 266 with 128 meg ram and a 8gig ide drive. So, only having this one experience with mandrake 8, that is what I would suspect, I had good luck previously with mandrake 6.* but after that Mandrake got flaky for me and I didn't retry them until now.
