Hi! Since recently, the backspace key doesn't work anymore in (console) vim. It just prints a (^?). How can I get the backspace key back? Hmm, strange... Backspace in vim just doesn't work anymore, when vim is called from within mutt. Now, I start mutt in a xterm like so: OPTS="-bg black -fg white -title mutt +132 -bc +sb -ut +vb -fn \ -b&h-lucidatypewriter-medium-r-normal-*-*-140-*-*-m-*-iso8859-1" xterm $OPTS -e mutt When I start an xterm like above, but without the "-e mutt" and then start vim inside this new xterm, backspace also doesn't work. If I start a xterm with no parameters (ie. plain typing "xterm"), backspace works. Ah, remove the last sentence - also in a plain xterm backspace is broken. Uhm, now it's becoming strange... backspace is also broken in a vim started in rxvt *IF* I start rxvt from a xterm. Ie. first starting xterm and then starting rxvt from within this new xterm. HOWEVER, if I start a rxvt not from a xterm but by starting it from powershell, the menu icon or from Gnome's RUN dialog, backspace is fine. I just tested rxvt, aterm, Eterm, kterm, konsole and gnome-terminal. There backspace in vim always work, no matter how I started the terminal. Okay, let me summarize: Backspace in (console) vim is broken, if: - vim is started from xterm - vim is started from a rxvt started from xterm backspace works fine, if: - vim is started from aterm, Eterm, kterm, konsole (the KDE term), gnome-terminal, console (the real one) - vim is started from a rxvt *NOT* started from within a xterm Could someone explain why this is happening? This is with: [askwar@teich tmp]$ rpm -qa|sort|grep '\(aterm\|kterm\|Eterm\|xterm\|rxvt\)' aterm-0.4.0-7mdk Eterm-O.8.10-15mdk kterm-6.2.0-15mdk rxvt-2.7.6-3mdk xterm-156-1mdk [askwar@teich tmp]$ rpm -qf $(which konsole) $(which gnome-terminal) kdebase-2.2-0.beta1.2mdk gnome-core-1.4.0.4-4mdk Alexander Skwar -- How to quote: http://learn.to/quote (german) http://quote.6x.to (english) Homepage: http://www.digitalprojects.com | http://www.iso-top.de iso-top.de - Die gnstige Art an Linux Distributionen zu kommen Uptime: 20 hours 37 minutes
