rpm -q will check for a package of that name installed. The package
foo might contain the file libfoo.so. So you could do
% rpm -q foo | grep libfoo
or to find out what package a particular file is from:
% rpm -qf /bin/bash
or to find all files matching a particular pattern and ask rpm about
each of them:
% locate libfoo | xargs rpm -qf
or maybe
% locate libfoo | xargs rpm -qf | sort -u
