Hi,
I just got 'few' problems while trying to set a gw/firewall up with Cooker
from Thursday 9/8. If some of these have been fixed or already reported
since then, please disregard:
IMPORTANT:
1. The ethernet card 3c509 now works fine during the NFS installation, but
is totally dead when the machine is restarted. I am sure the problem comes
from the driver since the network comes alive as soon as I plug a different
card model.
2. This different card is a PC-card 3c575_cb, ID 10b75167, but is detected
by harddrake as 3c59x. I will send a separate email to harddrake about
that, but that
prevents any net install with this card.
3. The standard PS/2 mouse is correctly detected during install, but
apparently not installed and the first boot complains behind Aurora.
4. I then tried a CD install, but the pccard are not initialized correctly,
so the network config fails again. The syslog gives: "exec of
cardmgr-2.4.7-8mdkBOOT failed: no such file or directory".
5. After install, with the modem correctly configured, ifup ppp0 complains
about
/usr/bin/adsl-start not existing or not being executable for ppp0. There
is a fancy test at that place in the script that might be too fancy.
6. Squid refuses to start complaining that the directory /var/log/squid has
to be writable by user nobody. The directory by default is owned by
squid:squid.
7. Why is drakgw installing a dhcp server without asking me if that's how I
thought that this was now obsolete w/ kernel 2.4.
8. All the 'drak' tools fail miserably (often badly) when they need to
install a package. grpmi uses a wrong libray. I had to guess what they
needed and install everything manually.
LOWER PRIORITY:
9. Aurora might be good looking, but it is much more of a nuisance when
using Cooker. It would be nice to have the choice to install it or not.
This is the first package I always remove.
10. The default console font size is fixed to 16. I would like to have the
choice at install time. I am using 08 on all my machines, but I admit it
sometimes requires good eyes.
11. Surely someone has already reported that. When a standard user logs in
in console mode, 4 lines about i2c are displayed.
12. While waiting for a cd to beburnt, I noticed that my favourite xpat2
has been broken.
13. On one machine, devfsd complains at boot time that a /dev/cdrom link
already
exists.
That's all folks, sorry for such a long email.
