The only issue I see, is that with autofs the mountpoints are not
visible.  That is, you go to /auto (or wherever) and do a ls, and you
don't see anything.  Now, you could obviously make a directory
containing symlinks to the auto mounted filesystems (eg.
/auto-link/floppy -> /auto/floppy), but doing a ls in /auto-link (or
anything which stat's the link, like using Nautilus, Konqueror, mc
.....) will cause the filesystem to be mounted.

And further, if I'm not completely mistaken, you've got to wait upto a
minute to be able to unmount the fs.  But I'm not sure about this one.

But overall, I *completely* agree with you.  I also fail to see the
benefit of supermount - I suppose because of "ignorance", just like you
are :)
